PUERTO GALERA, Philippines – At least one person has died after multiple landslides hit the resort town of Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro, local officials said.
The incidents were reported in several parts of the municipality, according to initial reports. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of relatives.
Emergency response teams have been dispatched to the affected areas to assist in clearing operations and to check for any other potential casualties.
The town's disaster risk reduction and management office has advised residents, particularly those living near slopes and mountainous areas, to remain alert for possible further landslides.
Authorities are still assessing the extent of the damage caused by the landslides. The cause of the incidents has not yet been established, though similar events in the region have often been triggered by heavy rains.
