In response to the anticipated holiday rush, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has announced the issuance of 956 special permits for public utility vehicles (PUVs). This move, effective from December 20, 2024, to January 10, 2025, aims to accommodate the increased number of passengers during the festive season. LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III emphasized that these permits will enhance transportation services, particularly on routes connecting to the provinces, where demand is expected to spike. Out of 988 applications received, 956 were approved, covering various types of PUVs, with a focus on buses. Guadiz highlighted that the initiative not only aims to facilitate smoother travel but also to ensure safety and efficiency at transport terminals. This strategic deployment of additional PUVs is expected to contribute to a more joyful and secure holiday period for commuters across the Philippines.
