Education Secretary Sonny Angara recently praised President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his backing of the Department of Education (DepEd) and committed to furthering educational reforms during the holiday season. In a statement, Angara emphasized the ongoing support from President Marcos and collaborators in both the public and private sectors, which will drive the enhancement of the country’s basic education system. He highlighted the President’s earlier commitments to teachers, including career advancement, skill enhancement programs, increased allowances for teaching and medical needs, and the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI), alongside reduced workloads and increased vacation credits. DepEd has also been focusing on boosting students’ problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, reviewing the curriculum to enhance employability, and forging partnerships to advance digitalization, build classrooms, and supply learning materials. Looking ahead to 2025, Angara pledged to strive for a modern, high-quality education for all Filipino learners. He called for a collective effort to embody the spirit of Filipino unity to achieve an inclusive, modern, and quality education system, aiming for transformative changes in education under the New Philippines. Additionally, Angara extended his holiday wishes to the DepEd’s teaching and non-teaching staff, acknowledging their steadfast support during his tenure.
