The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has announced that families of inmates will be permitted to visit and stay overnight at correctional facilities during the Christmas and New Year holidays. BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. detailed in a memorandum that the stay-in privileges will be divided into two groups to accommodate more families while ensuring order within the facilities. For Christmas, the first group can stay from 8 a.m. on December 24 to 7 a.m. on December 25, and the second group from 8 a.m. on December 25 to 7 a.m. on December 26. For New Year’s, the first group’s stay is scheduled from 8 a.m. on December 31 to 7 a.m. on January 1, 2025, with the second group staying from 8 a.m. on January 1, 2025, to 7 a.m. on January 2, 2025. Catapang emphasized that this initiative is part of BuCor’s effort to support family connections, recognizing the vital role of family in the rehabilitation of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs). He stressed the importance of allowing inmates to maintain meaningful relationships with their loved ones, even while incarcerated.
