The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has announced plans to deploy over 14,000 officers to ensure safety during the upcoming Feast of the Black Nazarene in Manila on January 9. Acting director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin detailed that the force will consist of 12,168 officers dedicated to securing the event’s area and route, supplemented by an additional 2,306 personnel as a support force.
This deployment follows the successful Ligtas Paskuhan campaign by the Philippine National Police, which maintained peace and order from December 16, 2024, to January 1, 2025, with only minor firecracker-related incidents reported. Aberin credited the effectiveness of heightened police presence, aggressive anti-crime operations, and community involvement in thwarting potential criminal activities during the New Year celebrations.
The same security strategy, with slight adjustments, will be employed for the Feast of the Black Nazarene. The traditional route of the Traslacion, the procession of the revered Black Nazarene image, will start at the Quirino Grandstand and weave through several streets before concluding at Quiapo Church. The route includes turns through Katigbak Drive, Padre Burgos Street, Ayala Bridge, and numerous other thoroughfares, culminating in a festive mass at midnight on the feast day at the grandstand.
