Quezon City Introduces Electric Buses for Free Public Transport

·

On January 2, 2025, the Quezon City government rolled out six new electric buses as part of its free ride service initiative. These eco-friendly buses will service QCity Bus Route 1, running between Quezon City Hall and Cubao. The city government announced that these buses would start operating from January 2, 2025, facilitating travel between the two key locations in both directions. Each bus is equipped to seat 41 passengers and includes wheelchair ramps to accommodate individuals with disabilities. Additionally, there is limited standing room to ensure passenger safety and comfort. To support the smooth operation of these new buses, traffic enforcers from the city’s Traffic and Transport Management Department have been assigned. Mayor Joy Belmonte highlighted that this move supports the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA Law), aimed at enhancing air quality and reducing pollution from conventional vehicles. She stated that this initiative reflects the city’s commitment to environmental care and pollution reduction. Meanwhile, the regular QCity bus services will continue to offer free rides on other routes, connecting various parts of the city including Litex/IBP Road, Welcome Rotonda to Aurora Katipunan, General Luis, Mindanao Ave. via Visayas Ave, Gilmore, C5/Ortigas Ave. Extension, and Muñoz.
