LTO Boosts Traffic Enforcement as Holiday Season Concludes

·

As the holiday festivities wind down, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has ramped up its traffic enforcement efforts. LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II has directed a surge in traffic personnel deployment to manage the anticipated rush of travelers heading back to urban centers from the provinces.

Mendoza’s directive, issued on January 2, 2025, mandates all regional directors and LTO office heads to ensure a strong presence of enforcers on the roads. This move aims to control traffic and uphold road safety standards during the post-holiday period. Mendoza emphasized the need for a visible enforcement presence, stating, ‘We expect a significant increase in motor vehicles on roads leading to Metro Manila and other urban areas, so we must be out there to ensure everyone’s safety as they return home.’

The LTO has committed to deploying adequate personnel on major thoroughfares, with a particular focus on Metro Manila. Additionally, Mendoza has intensified the road safety campaign, targeting issues such as overloaded trucks and vehicles with worn-out tires. Over 35 truck owners have received show cause orders following LTO checkpoints conducted during late-night to early-morning hours on key truck routes in Metro Manila and other areas.

Mendoza called on all motorists to cooperate with the LTO’s efforts by adhering to road safety measures and regulations. He stressed the importance of vehicle maintenance, sobriety, and adequate rest for drivers to ensure safe travel. The LTO’s heightened enforcement and safety initiatives aim to protect all road users as the holiday season ends.
