MANILA – In a significant effort to enhance science and innovation across the Philippines, the Department of Education (DepEd) is intensifying its partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). This was announced in a recent news release where Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. emphasized the pivotal role of education in advancing scientific and technological development and nurturing future scientists and innovators.
Angara pointed out the essential link between science and the nation’s progress, citing the DOST hymn which highlights science as the cornerstone of a thriving country. He stressed that this is the fundamental goal of their joint efforts.
Solidum expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that a robust educational system is crucial for the advancement of science, technology, and innovation. He praised the appointment of former Senator Sonny Angara as DepEd Secretary, believing that the key to success in these fields starts with education from a young age.
The commitment to this partnership was reaffirmed during the appointment ceremony for new campus directors of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS). The new directors appointed are Rod Allan De Lara for the Main Campus, Myrna Libutaque for the Western Visayas Campus, and Mary Grace Navarro for the Ilocos Region Campus.
Both secretaries also discussed plans to extend their efforts beyond PSHS, aiming to foster a wider impact and build a stronger foundation for innovation throughout the country.
