The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has decided to prolong the screening of its official entries until January 14 in selected cinemas. Originally set to conclude on January 7, the festival has been granted an additional week due to overwhelming public support. Don Artes, the chair of the MMFF and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic response to the festival’s 50th edition. He noted that the extension was a response to public demand, allowing more time for audiences to enjoy the high-quality, locally produced films. Complimentary passes will remain valid through the extended period. Artes also expressed optimism about the potential for increased earnings in the 2024 MMFF. The MMFF, organized by the MMDA, plays a crucial role in promoting and preserving Philippine cinema. The festival’s proceeds support various film industry beneficiaries, including the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation, the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council, the Optical Media Board, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
