The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) is actively preparing for the Philippines’ role as host of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting, scheduled for February 5 to 7, 2025. Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, who also co-chairs the Philippine OGP, has been instrumental in these preparations. On Tuesday, the DBM formalized a partnership through a memorandum of agreement with various government and media entities to enhance transparency and public trust. The agreement was signed with the Presidential Communications Office, Manila Bulletin, Inquirer Interactive, Inc., DZRH-Manila Broadcasting Co., DOOH Philippines, and SMC Asia Cars Distributor Corp. Secretary Pangandaman expressed gratitude to these partners for their role in promoting open governance, emphasizing their importance in broadcasting the principles of open government across the region. The upcoming meeting aims to unite leaders from government, civil society, and international organizations to enhance democratic practices and governmental accountability. The OGP, involving 75 countries and 150 local governments, represents over two billion people and numerous civil society organizations focused on transparent and inclusive governance. Approximately 260 international participants are expected to attend, with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. also anticipated to be present. Additionally, the public is invited to participate in an OGP fun run at Quirino Grandstand on January 26, 2025, which will kick off the event. The run offers three distances with varying registration fees, and all proceeds will benefit the Philippine Red Cross.
