Senator Urges Continued Crackdown on POGO Residues

·

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has urged for ongoing efforts to combat the remnants of Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs), following a significant operation in Bagac, Bataan that rescued 900 alleged POGO workers. The senator’s call comes in the wake of the December 31, 2024, deadline for POGO operations to cease, emphasizing the need to eradicate criminal elements associated with these entities.

Gatchalian stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in the fight against POGOs, which he claims have morphed into various business fronts such as BPO companies, resorts, and restaurants to continue their illegal operations under the guise of legitimacy. He urged all law enforcement agencies and local government units to stay alert to these disguised POGO offshoots.

Highlighting the risks posed by these transformations, Gatchalian pointed out that former POGO workers, numbering around 11,000 and awaiting deportation, could engage in criminal activities like kidnapping. He emphasized the need for vigilance to prevent such activities and ensure the swift deportation of these illegal aliens.

Additionally, Gatchalian praised the Office of the Solicitor General for their efforts in canceling fraudulently obtained birth certificates but urged them to accelerate their actions against foreigners posing as locals to curb their abusive activities in the country.
