Philippine Air Force Grieves Loss of Decorated Athlete and Airman Mervin Guarte

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) is in mourning following the tragic death of Airman First Class Mervin Guarte, a celebrated national athlete who was fatally stabbed in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning inside the residence of a local village councilor. Guarte, aged 33, succumbed to his injuries after being stabbed in the chest.

PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo expressed the organization’s deep sorrow and promised unwavering support to Guarte’s family. She also confirmed that the PAF is actively assisting the Calapan City Police in their investigation into the attack.

Guarte, who joined the PAF in 2015 through direct enlistment, was not only a dedicated serviceman but also a multi-medalist at the Southeast Asian Games. His achievements brought immense pride to both the country and the PAF, showcasing his discipline and commitment to excellence.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has urged law enforcement to expedite their investigation into Guarte’s murder and ensure the perpetrator faces justice. He stressed the importance of eradicating violence from society and highlighted the significant impact of Guarte’s death on his family, the sports community, and the PAF. Cayetano encouraged the public to remember Guarte’s legacy and push for accountability.

Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino also mourned the loss of Guarte, a champion in obstacle sports racing. He emphasized the void left in Philippine sports and expressed hope for a swift resolution to the case.
