On the occasion of the annual Feast of Jesus Nazareno, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. addressed the nation, encouraging Filipinos to draw strength from unity and compassion as they face life’s challenges with faith and grace. The event, marked by the Traslacion procession, began at 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, heading towards Quiapo Church.

Marcos highlighted the significance of the Feast, noting that it embodies the collective strength and harmony of the Filipino people through their faith. The life-sized image of Jesus Nazareno, depicting Jesus Christ carrying the cross, has been a symbol of devotion and resilience for Filipino Catholics for over four centuries.

The President emphasized the symbolic act of carrying Jesus Nazareno as a reminder of Christ’s sacrifices and the compassion of God, who supports us in times of need. He urged the faithful to extend this compassion to others, encouraging acts of kindness and empathy within their communities.

Marcos also stressed the importance of not only focusing on personal spiritual growth but also actively contributing to societal betterment, mirroring the example set by the Nazarene. He expressed hope that the massive gathering would strengthen the bond between devotees and the Almighty, inspiring them to serve others with a higher purpose.

The procession, which attracts millions of barefoot devotees, turned the streets of Manila into a sea of maroon and yellow, showcasing the profound devotion of the participants. The Philippine Red Cross reported that by 7:30 a.m., 119 devotees had sought medical assistance, with some experiencing breathing difficulties, chest pain, and other health issues. Ten were treated at emergency field hospitals, and two were transferred to nearby hospitals for further care.
