LTO Calls for Taxi Owner After EDSA Fire Incident

·

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a summons to the owner of a taxi that burst into flames on EDSA in Barangay Santo Cristo, Quezon City. LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, announced that a show cause order was sent to the registered owner and the driver of the taxi, identified by the plate number ABE 2064, to address concerns about the vehicle’s roadworthiness potentially causing the fire. Mendoza emphasized the importance of regular maintenance for vehicles used in public transportation, stating that an investigation would be conducted to assess the maintenance history of the taxi. The owner and driver are required to appear at the LTO Central Office on January 27, accompanied by a notarized affidavit explaining the incident. This affidavit must justify why they should not face administrative penalties for failing to ensure the taxi was safe for operation. Mendoza highlighted the danger posed to both the driver and passengers, underscoring the severity of the situation.
