Sagip Party-list Representative Rodante Marcoleta emphasized the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s (INC) stance of neutrality in the ongoing political discord between President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte. Speaking on the Bilyonaryo News Channel’s At The Forefront, Marcoleta, a notable INC member, clarified that the church does not align with either side. He stressed the INC’s desire for collaboration between the President and Vice President, highlighting this as essential for effective governance.
The INC is set to hold a National Rally for Peace at the Quirino Grandstand on January 13, expecting around 1 million attendees as per the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). Marcoleta described the event as a demonstration of the INC’s commitment to peace and unity, aiming to convey a message that peace is crucial for national development and progress. He believes that peace can only be achieved through the unity of the Filipino people, which should be exemplified by their leaders.
This rally comes at a time when three impeachment complaints have been lodged against Vice President Duterte in the House of Representatives, citing various allegations including constitutional violations, betrayal of public trust, and corruption. President Marcos has publicly stated his opposition to Duterte’s impeachment, arguing that it would not benefit the Filipino people.
Marcoleta reiterated the INC’s neutral position in the political dispute between Marcos and Duterte, stating that no official endorsement has been made by the church. To facilitate the rally, Malacañang has suspended government work and classes in Manila and Pasay on January 13, as outlined in Memorandum Circular No.76. Essential services such as health, disaster response, and other vital functions will continue to operate. Private companies have the option to suspend work on the day of the event.
The MMDA plans to deploy 1,300 personnel to manage traffic and ensure public safety during the rally, underscoring the event’s significance and the government’s support for the INC’s message of peace and unity.
