Three Weather Phenomena to Keep Rains Coming Across the Philippines

·

MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Saturday that the shear line, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), and the northeast monsoon will continue to drench various regions of the country. According to PAGASA’s early morning advisory, the Visayas, Bicol Region, and Mimaropa are set to see cloudy conditions with scattered showers and occasional thunderstorms due to the shear line. These areas are at risk of flash floods and landslides as the rains could be moderate to heavy, and at times intense, the weather agency cautioned. The ITCZ will also bring similar weather to the Davao Region and Soccsksargen, with cloudy skies and scattered rains accompanied by isolated thunderstorms. On the other hand, the northeast monsoon is expected to cause cloudy skies with rain in Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera region, Aurora, and Quezon. The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized weather events. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other parts of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light, isolated rains. PAGASA also warned of strong to gale-force winds and rough to very rough seas in Northern Luzon and the eastern parts of Central and Southern Luzon. The rest of Luzon and the Visayas will face moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas, while the rest of the archipelago will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas, according to the weather bureau.
