Filipino Man Caught in Scam Attempt, American Fugitive Arrested by Immigration

·

In a recent operation at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) detained a 35-year-old Filipino man who was trying to travel to Cambodia under dubious conditions. The man, who first told officials he was heading to Hanoi, Vietnam, on a Cebu Pacific flight, later confessed during a secondary inspection that his real destination was Cambodia, lured by a job offer he received via a recruitment on Facebook. He was promised employment at a business process outsourcing (BPO) company, with further instructions delivered through the Telegram messaging app. The BI noted that such BPOs are frequently used by criminal syndicates as covers for various scams, including online fraud and catfishing. In a separate incident, BI agents in Nueva Ecija apprehended 67-year-old American Michael Lewis Ginsberg, who is wanted in the U.S. for sexual assault. Ginsberg is currently detained and awaiting deportation due to overstaying his visa.
