The Philippine Navy has firmly stated that any construction or reclamation in the Bajo de Masinloc area is considered a ‘red line’ and an unacceptable move. This declaration was made by Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, the spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, during a press briefing on Tuesday. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has prepared contingency plans to respond if this boundary is crossed. Trinidad emphasized that the government has set four red lines, one of which strictly prohibits any reclamation activities in Bajo de Masinloc. He stressed that such actions are non-negotiable. Despite ongoing tensions in the region, the AFP remains committed to its duties, including maritime patrols and air surveillance. Furthermore, the AFP is planning to increase its engagements with treaty allies and other partner nations in the Philippines’ maritime zones, which include Bajo de Masinloc, the Northern Islands, the Eastern Seaboard, and the West Philippine Sea. Trinidad also mentioned that last year saw 10 multilateral maritime activities, with expectations of more in 2025, aimed at enhancing capabilities and exploring modern technologies.
