The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has confirmed its capability to manage both the ongoing situation at Mount Kanlaon and the security requirements for the upcoming midterm elections. Despite the volcano’s continued activity, the AFP is prepared to support affected areas effectively.

AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla emphasized the military’s readiness, stating that the AFP has specialized units trained for humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR). She assured that should the situation at Mount Kanlaon deteriorate further, the AFP is poised to deliver essential aid and support to the impacted communities.

Following its eruption on December 9, Mount Kanlaon remains at Alert Level 3. Military units stationed in the Visayas, especially those in proximity to the volcano, are on high alert and prepared for immediate action.

Col. Padilla also highlighted the AFP’s ongoing collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and other governmental bodies to ensure a coordinated and effective disaster response strategy.
