The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has reported that the total aid provided to families affected by the ongoing activity of Mt. Kanlaon has now exceeded PHP172.1 million. This assistance, a collaborative effort between the national government and local authorities, has been crucial in supporting those impacted by the volcano’s unrest.
According to the NDRRMC’s most recent situational report, the aid distribution breaks down to PHP109.9 million for Central Visayas and PHP62.2 million for Western Visayas. A total of 10,032 families have benefited from this support, with 7,551 families in Western Visayas and 2,481 in Central Visayas receiving assistance.
The relief efforts have included the provision of family food packs, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, generator sets, and financial aid. The ongoing volcanic activity has affected 12,285 families across 27 barangays in the two regions.
Currently, 3,164 families are still housed in 23 evacuation centers, while 2,408 families are receiving aid outside these facilities. In response to the crisis, 57 cities and municipalities have been declared under a state of calamity, with 32 in Western Visayas and 25 in Central Visayas.
