Metro Manila Sees Significant Drop in Crime Rates, NCRPO Reports

·

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced a substantial 23.73% decrease in crime incidents in Metro Manila, spanning from November 23, 2024, to January 15, 2025. Acting chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin highlighted that only 768 crimes were reported during this timeframe, a sharp decline from the 1,007 incidents recorded in the previous year’s corresponding period. Aberin, who assumed leadership of the NCRPO on November 23, attributed this success to a combination of increased police visibility, strategic personnel deployment during significant events, and fostering a police presence that resonates with the community. He emphasized that these achievements would fuel the NCRPO’s ongoing commitment to maintaining peace in the region. In addition to the crime reduction, the NCRPO ramped up efforts against wanted individuals, resulting in the arrest of 2,166 suspects and 349,465 violators of local ordinances. The police also intensified their fight against illegal drugs, seizing drugs valued at PHP153.29 million and conducting 1,518 operations against gambling, which led to the arrest of 3,806 players and the confiscation of PHP928,071.50 in betting money. Aberin pledged that the NCRPO’s campaign against illegal drugs would become even more vigorous and analytical in 2025, while strictly adhering to police operational procedures and legal due process. Furthermore, the NCRPO reported the seizure of 364 illegal firearms and the arrest of 352 individuals for illegal possession of firearms. The NCRPO oversees five districts: Manila Police District, Quezon City Police District, Northern Police District, Southern Police District, and Eastern Police District.
