Metro Manila Sees Significant Crime Reduction, NCRPO Reports

·

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced a substantial 23.73% decrease in crime incidents in Metro Manila, spanning from November 23, 2024, to January 15, 2025. Acting chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin highlighted that only 768 crimes were reported during this timeframe, a sharp decline from the 1,007 incidents recorded in the previous year’s corresponding period. Aberin, who assumed leadership of the NCRPO on November 23, attributed this success to a combination of increased police visibility, strategic personnel deployment during significant events, and fostering a police presence that resonates with the community. He emphasized that these achievements fuel the NCRPO’s dedication to maintaining peace in the region. In addition to the crime drop, the NCRPO ramped up efforts against wanted individuals, apprehending 2,166 suspects and 349,465 violators of local laws. The police also intensified their fight against illegal drugs, seizing drugs valued at PHP153.29 million, and cracked down on illegal gambling, arresting 3,806 participants and confiscating PHP928,071.50 in betting funds across 1,518 operations. Looking ahead to 2025, Aberin promised a more vigorous and analytical approach to combating drug-related crimes, ensuring strict adherence to police procedures and legal standards. The NCRPO also reported the seizure of 364 illegal firearms and the arrest of 352 individuals for illegal gun possession. The NCRPO’s jurisdiction includes the Manila Police District, Quezon City Police District, Northern Police District, Southern Police District, and Eastern Police District.
