Philippine CIDG Arrests Nearly 11,000, Seizes P3.3 Billion in Evidence in 2024

The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) reported a significant crackdown on crime in 2024, with nearly 11,000 arrests and the seizure of evidence valued at PHP3.3 billion. During the CIDG’s 72nd founding anniversary at Camp Crame, PNP-CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III highlighted the success of 13,349 law enforcement operations, which led to the apprehension of 10,797 wanted individuals and the confiscation of 1,439 loose firearms. The operations also resulted in the resolution of 2,729 cases, with the CIDG maintaining a high crime clearance efficiency of 99.50 percent and a crime solution efficiency of 85.92 percent. Torre emphasized the CIDG’s commitment to enhancing its strategies and effectiveness in law enforcement, promising to strengthen cooperation with various agencies and international partners to combat transnational crimes and improve intelligence sharing. In a separate matter, Torre announced his intention to file a cyberlibel complaint against individuals spreading false rumors about his hospitalization, specifically calling out former broadcaster Jay Sonza. He also mentioned a previous legal action against former Philippine Army captain Clemente Enrique for inciting sedition, related to Enrique’s online calls to overthrow the government.
