The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has expressed its gratitude to ARISE Philippines, a non-government organization, for donating over 800 dressed chickens to support the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, following the recent eruption of Mount Kanlaon. In a statement released on Tuesday, OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno highlighted how this donation has been instrumental in bringing a semblance of normalcy to the lives of evacuees by ensuring they have access to regular meals.
Nepomuceno extended his heartfelt thanks to ARISE Philippines, emphasizing the importance of their contribution in providing essential food aid to those affected by the volcanic eruption. He praised the partnership between ARISE Philippines and the OCD, noting its significant value in their joint efforts to manage disaster responses effectively.
ARISE Philippines, part of the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE) led by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), facilitated the donation through Savemore’s San Carlos City branch. This initiative was spurred by Nepomuceno’s direct appeal to ARISE Philippines for assistance to the eruption victims.
Last week, Nepomuceno visited Negros Island to assess the ongoing response operations. He reiterated the crucial role that contributions from private organizations play in enhancing the ability to deliver essential aid and support to those in need. The OCD, in collaboration with various partners, remains committed to addressing the needs of the affected population.
