In a significant security operation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, authorities confiscated over USD273,905 in undeclared cash from a passenger heading to Hong Kong on January 22, 2025. The discovery was made by X-ray operator Yvonne Dujali during routine security checks at the baggage area, where she spotted an unusual image on the X-ray monitor. The cash, amounting to more than PHP16 million, was found after the passenger was called to witness a manual inspection of their luggage. Following the find, the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) involved the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group and the Bureau of Customs to handle the situation appropriately. OTS Administrator Crizaldo Nieves praised the effective collaboration among airport authorities in preventing illegal activities. Travelers are reminded that they must declare foreign currency over USD10,000 and Philippine pesos over 50,000.
