Chinese National Arrested at Manila Airport for Visa Fraud

·

In a recent crackdown on immigration fraud, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Manila apprehended a 23-year-old Chinese man, Li Xuanjun, at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1. The arrest occurred on January 22, 2025, just as Li was about to board a flight to Quanzhou, China. Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado disclosed that Li was flagged by the BI’s automated derogatory check system, which revealed he was using a working visa obtained through deceitful means. Further investigation confirmed Li’s identity matched the individual flagged in the system. Commissioner Viado stated that Li would face deportation for being an undesirable alien due to his fraudulent visa acquisition. Li was subsequently handed over to the BI’s Order Control and Intelligence Unit and taken to a warden facility in Taguig City pending deportation proceedings. It was discovered that Li’s working visa, originally granted in 2023, was revoked after it was found to be based on a petition from a non-existent company, as confirmed by checks with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Trade and Industry. The BI’s board of commissioners declared the visa null and void, citing the false premises under which it was issued, and Li has been barred from re-entering the Philippines.
