Philippines to Lead ASEAN Correctional Conference in Palawan

·

The Philippines is set to host the ASEAN Regional Correctional Conference (ARCC) in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, from February 14 to 17. This significant event will gather leaders from all ASEAN prison services to tackle shared issues and exchange successful strategies. The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) are collaborating to organize the conference, themed ‘Shaping the Future of Corrections Together.’ BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. emphasized the importance of the ARCC as a platform to confront challenges such as prison overcrowding and resource scarcity, and to enhance the quality of correctional services across participating nations. This marks the first occasion that the Philippines will host such an international gathering. Other ASEAN nations including Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste will join the conference. Additionally, 28 international organizations have received invitations to participate, along with related government agencies and lawmakers.
