Philippines to See Widespread Rain Showers Due to Easterlies and Northeast Monsoon

·

MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Tuesday that the majority of the country will be affected by isolated rain showers, primarily due to the influence of the easterlies. These weather patterns are expected to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to regions including Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro.

In the northern and central parts of Luzon, the northeast monsoon, known locally as ‘amihan,’ is set to cause rainfall in areas such as Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon. PAGASA has cautioned that these areas might experience moderate to heavy rains, which could lead to flash floods or landslides.

The northeast monsoon will also bring lighter, isolated rain showers to Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, and other parts of Central Luzon and Calabarzon. The rest of the Philippines can expect similar conditions of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, driven by the easterlies.

PAGASA has highlighted the risk of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms. Additionally, forecasts indicate strong winds and rough seas in Northern Luzon and the eastern part of Central Luzon, while the Visayas and Mindanao will see lighter to moderate winds and slight to moderate sea conditions.

Currently, PAGASA has not detected any low pressure areas that could develop into tropical cyclones.
