LTO Steps Up to Aid Rice Delivery Trucks Amid National Food Emergency

·

In a move to combat the ongoing rice shortage and price surge, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced its commitment to assist rice delivery trucks nationwide. LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II emphasized the agency’s role in ensuring the smooth delivery of rice, especially to regions facing shortages or price hikes. Mendoza stated that LTO personnel would escort cargo trucks from their starting points to their destinations to facilitate uninterrupted rice distribution. This initiative comes in response to a national food emergency declared by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., aimed at addressing the critical rice shortage and unusual price increases. The LTO plans to work closely with the Department of Agriculture and other government bodies to coordinate these efforts. Mendoza highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation to tackle the crisis, underscoring the welfare of millions of Filipinos as the primary concern.
