In a significant crackdown on illegal drug sales, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two Chinese nationals, identified as Hu and Quan, in Parañaque City. The arrests were made during a buy-bust operation at Concorde Village, Tambo, just after midnight on Saturday, February 8, 2025. The operation led to the seizure of various unregistered medicines, including OTC 999 – Ganmaoling Keli, Glucophage – Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-release tablets, Amlodipine Besilate tablets, Linou – Gliclazide tablets, OTC – Longdan Xiegan pills, Zhibai Dihuang pills, Bear Bile powder, Diamicron – Gliclazide tablets, and Bayaspirin – Aspirin Enteric-coated tablets. These items, valued at approximately PHP15,000, were not registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The suspects face charges under Section 11 of Republic Act 9711, which bans the sale and distribution of unregistered drugs. CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre emphasized the importance of public vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities to curb the sale of unregistered medicines. He reiterated the CIDG’s commitment to enforcing laws to safeguard public health and bolster the pharmaceutical industry. In related news, the Quezon City Police District reported the arrest of 218 suspects in various operations from February 2 to 8, including 64 wanted persons, 74 gamblers, 75 drug suspects, and five individuals for illegal firearm possession. Additionally, illegal drugs worth PHP2.06 million were seized. The National Capital Region Office also announced the capture of Metro Manila’s top 10 most wanted fugitives during the first week of February, with arrests made for serious crimes such as murder, rape, and acts of lasciviousness.
