Quezon City Expands Veterinary Training Opportunities for Students

·

Quezon City is enhancing its veterinary training programs, offering practical experience to both aspiring veterinarians and senior high school students. Mayor Joy Belmonte announced that the Quezon City Veterinary Department (QCVD) has initiated a work immersion program in collaboration with Quezon City High School, specifically targeting STEM students. This initiative aims to equip students with essential technical and professional skills, readying them for future careers.

Mayor Belmonte emphasized the program’s role in fostering the next generation of veterinarians and animal welfare advocates. She stated that by providing real-world training, the city is investing in both the students’ futures and the community’s health and safety. The city’s commitment to education, public health, and responsible pet care is evident through this initiative.

Additionally, the QCVD has opened its internship program to veterinary medicine students from various institutions across Luzon. These students will gain hands-on experience in animal care, clinical procedures, rabies prevention, spay and neuter programs, and food safety regulations. The department is actively forming partnerships with universities, finalizing agreements through memoranda of understanding.

In collaboration with Quezon City University, the QCVD is integrating specialized learning modules into its training programs. Interns will also have the opportunity to work at the QC Animal Care and Adoption Center in Barangay Payatas, which offers shelter and medical services for rescued animals. Since its establishment in 2021, the center has been a key facility for the city’s animal welfare efforts.

Ana Maria Cabel, head of QCVD, stressed the importance of these programs in preparing future veterinarians for their roles in public health and food safety. She highlighted that the training at the QC Animal Care and Adoption Center will reinforce the city’s dedication to animal welfare and veterinary excellence.
