Philippine Aviation Authority Seeks to Bolster Drone Regulations Through Inter-Agency Collaboration

·

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is intensifying efforts to enhance drone regulations through partnerships with various government bodies. This initiative was highlighted during a recent training session on basic drone operations held by the National Tobacco Administration in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental, from November 25-28, 2024. On February 12, 2025, CAAP announced its plans to collaborate with the Department of Trade and Industry, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, and the Office of the President’s Anti-Terrorism Council to refine regulatory oversight and streamline administrative processes for drone operators. A significant focus of these discussions was the creation of designated drone parks or zones, which would offer a secure and legally recognized space for both recreational and professional drone activities. Additionally, CAAP is set to launch an online registration system and a comprehensive safety program to further support responsible drone usage. CAAP Director General Manuel Tamayo emphasized the importance of these collaborations in developing a more structured and efficient regulatory framework. This move underscores CAAP’s dedication to ensuring airspace safety while encouraging innovation in drone technology, aligning regulations with the rapid advancements in the industry.
