Taguig Police Chief Under Investigation for Alleged Warrantless Searches

·

MANILA – The head of the National Capital Region Police Office, Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, has initiated an investigation into Taguig City’s police chief, Col. Joey Goforth, following allegations that his officers conducted a search without a warrant on February 5. Aberin has stated that Goforth’s potential responsibility will be part of the broader investigation involving 10 officers accused of similar actions. In a statement to the Philippine News Agency, Aberin emphasized his directive to probe whether Goforth was negligent in his duties. On Tuesday, Aberin announced the suspension of the 10 officers to ensure an unbiased and thorough investigation. He reaffirmed the NCRPO’s commitment to upholding the law, transparency, and professionalism. Aberin vowed that any officers found guilty would face severe consequences, including possible dismissal from the police force, stating that such individuals have no place in the Philippine National Police. He added that those found culpable could face suspension, demotion, or even criminal charges. A widely circulated video reportedly showed officers from ‘Block 5’ conducting regular weekend raids without warrants.
