President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has named Vivencio ‘Vince’ Dizon, the former head of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), as the new Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr). The announcement came from Malacañang on Thursday, with Dizon set to assume his new role starting February 21, 2025. He will succeed Jaime Bautista, who stepped down for health reasons.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed Dizon’s appointment and stated that Dizon has been authorized to begin the transition process at the DOTr in collaboration with Bautista’s team. During his tenure as BCDA chief under the Duterte administration, Dizon played a key role in executing major projects within the government’s ‘Build, Build, Build’ infrastructure initiative.
Dizon’s previous roles include serving as a presidential adviser on flagship programs and projects under former President Rodrigo Duterte, and as the deputy chief implementer of the National Action Plan Against Covid-19. He also held positions as the chief testing czar and coordinator of the Test, Trace, Treat Program.
Before these roles, Dizon worked as a consultant for then-Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano from 2013 to 2016, as undersecretary for Political Affairs in the Office of the President from 2011 to 2013, and as chief of staff for Senator Edgardo Angara from 2002 to 2004. Additionally, he was the vice president for corporate communications at Strategic Alliance Holdings Inc. – Technologies from 2007 to 2011.
