In a heartfelt farewell meeting at Malacañan Palace, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. bid adieu to Cambodian Ambassador Phan Peuv, who has been instrumental in fostering stronger relations between the Philippines and Cambodia. The ambassador, who has served in Manila since 2022, expressed his deep honor in working with the Marcos administration, highlighting the significant progress in bilateral relations during his tenure.

During the meeting, Ambassador Phan thanked the Philippine government for its steadfast support and commitment to enhancing the diplomatic ties between the two nations. He reminisced about his initial meeting with Marcos just before the latter’s presidential inauguration in 2022, where they discussed strategies to bolster their countries’ relations.

President Marcos, in a social media post, praised Ambassador Phan for his contributions to deepening the partnership between the Philippines and Cambodia. He specifically mentioned the advancements in trade, investment, and joint efforts against transnational crime, wishing Phan success in his future endeavors.

The farewell call coincided with the recent visit of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to the Philippines, which Ambassador Phan described as having a fruitful outcome. Marcos expressed satisfaction with his discussions with Hun Manet, noting that their previous interactions during ASEAN and APEC meetings had laid a solid foundation for their talks in Manila.

During Hun Manet’s visit, eight agreements were signed to expand cooperation in crucial sectors such as agriculture, education, trade, and investment. These agreements signify a renewed commitment to strengthening the diplomatic relations established in 1957 and reaffirmed in 1995 between the two Southeast Asian nations.
