Shocking Discovery: P900 Million in Smuggled Luxury Cars Seized in Taguig Raid

·

In a stunning operation, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has uncovered a staggering PHP900 million worth of smuggled luxury vehicles hidden in a Taguig City warehouse. The raid, executed on February 19, 2025, led to the seizure of 44 high-end cars, including brands like Ferrari, Maserati, and Rolls Royce, marking another significant blow to smuggling networks in the Philippines.

BOC Commissioner Bien Rubio praised the relentless efforts of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service – Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP), highlighting the continuous vigilance against smuggling operations. Rubio emphasized the importance of these operations, which have now resulted in the recovery of billions in smuggled luxury vehicles.

The vehicles were discovered at Auto Vault Speed Shop on Levi Mariano Avenue in Barangay Ususan, Taguig. CIIS Director Verne Enciso noted the diverse range of luxury cars found, from top-tier models like the McLaren to more accessible mid-tier vehicles, indicating a broad market for these smuggled goods.

Among the seized vehicles were two Ferrari 488s, two Mercedes Benz C Class, and a variety of other luxury models including a McLaren 720S, Rolls Royce Cullinan, and a Porsche 911 Turbo S. The list also included less extravagant but still high-value cars like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic SIR.

The warehouse’s owners and occupants have been given 15 days to provide documentation proving that the necessary duties and taxes were paid. Failure to comply will result in charges under the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), specifically Sections 1400 and 1401 in relation to Section 1113.

Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Group Juvymax Uy stated that a detailed inventory of the seized vehicles will be conducted to ascertain the exact year models and other specifics, with the process overseen by Customs examiners and various witnesses including the Philippine Coast Guard and local barangay officials.

This recent operation marks the third successful raid by CIIS on auto shops dealing in luxury vehicles, following similar actions in Parañaque, Pasay, and Makati earlier in February.
