Triple Threat: Shear Line, Amihan, and Easterlies to Drench Philippines

·

The Philippines is bracing for a trifecta of weather systems that will keep the skies overcast and the rains pouring across the nation, according to the latest forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The shear line, the northeast monsoon known as ‘amihan,’ and the easterlies are set to dominate the weather pattern in the coming days.

PAGASA’s early morning bulletin detailed that the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy conditions with significant rainfall to regions including Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the broader Luzon area can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional light showers.

In the southern part of the country, the easterlies will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Caraga, Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the provinces of Sarangani, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. The rest of Mindanao will also see partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The shear line is expected to affect Palawan and the Visayas, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains, and isolated thunderstorms. PAGASA has issued warnings about the potential for flash floods and landslides due to the expected moderate to heavy rainfall.

Maritime conditions will be challenging with strong northeast winds and rough coastal waters predicted for the northern and eastern sections of Luzon. The rest of Luzon and the eastern sections of Visayas will face moderate to strong northeast winds with moderate to rough seas, while the rest of the country will experience lighter northeast winds and slight to moderate coastal conditions.

Temperatures across the Philippines are expected to range between 24.6°C and 32.4°C.
