Duterte Healthy Post Check-Up Amid ICC Detention, Says PH Embassy

·

The Philippine Embassy in the Netherlands has confirmed that former President Rodrigo Duterte completed a medical check-up while detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Duterte, through an ICC Detention Officer in The Hague, communicated his health status to the Embassy.

‘In the conversation, the former President shared that he went through a medical examination, received the necessary medical care, and is overall fine,’ revealed the Embassy on Friday, noted as Thursday in the Netherlands.

Duterte further requested a consular visit and assistance for visits from a family member and his legal advisor, former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

‘Consequently, the Embassy requested the Registry of the ICC to arrange a Consular Visit to the former President at the earliest convenience,’ the Embassy stated.

The ICC has also communicated that Medialdea will be part of Duterte’s legal defense team.

Meanwhile, Duterte’s daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, is also in The Netherlands, contributing to her father’s defense strategy alongside their lawyers.

Duterte remains detained following an ICC-issued warrant of arrest, coordinated with the Philippine authorities through Interpol. He faces charges of alleged crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s extensive anti-drug campaign.
