Revitalizing Pasig River: Unlocking Its Historical and Cultural Value

·

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) remains committed to renewing the vibrancy of the Pasig River, inspired by the project’s strong support from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

Jose Rizalino Acuzar, the Housing Secretary, emphasized the importance of this mission, expressing appreciation for the unwavering backing provided by the First Couple.

“Our initiative to rejuvenate the Pasig River is not merely a rehabilitation project; it is a tribute to our historical and cultural heritage for future generations,” Acuzar stated. DHSUD, together with various national and local agencies, leads the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development.

“We at DHSUD are incredibly thankful for the comprehensive support from our esteemed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza. Rest assured, we remain steadfast in our commitment to restoring the Pasig River’s beauty and vibrancy for future generations,” he continued.

The Pasig River Esplanade, stretching from the Manila Central Post Office to Plaza Mexico, began its phased opening in January and June of the previous year. The ‘Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli’ project is in its third phase, with President Marcos acknowledging the esplanade as a lively communal area, drawing in visitors.

Praising the transformation efforts led by the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development, the President indicated the growing popularity of this once-overlooked area.

Besides its social media acclaim, the riverbanks have grown into a dynamic venue for recreation, community interaction, and entrepreneurial activities, serving students, tourists, and families. The Pasig River’s renewed commercial and cultural significance is increasingly evident.
