Japanese Fraudster Deported from Philippines After Targeting Elderly

MANILA – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) in the Philippines announced the deportation of 36-year-old Japanese national Sasaki Yohei on Monday. Yohei, who was wanted in Japan for fraud, was sent back to Tokyo on a Japan Airlines flight.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado confirmed that Yohei’s deportation followed a request from the Japanese government, which had informed them of his criminal activities. ‘This action underscores our firm position against foreign nationals who try to avoid justice in their home countries by staying illegally in the Philippines,’ Viado stated.

Yohei was apprehended on October 1 in Quezon City’s Barangay Bahay Toro. According to reports from Japan, he faces charges from the Omiya summary court in Saitama for defrauding an elderly resident at a nursing home where he was employed. He is accused of convincing the victim to invest over JPY3 million in a fraudulent contract scheme.

Further investigations revealed that Yohei is allegedly linked to a Cambodia-based telecom fraud syndicate involved in serious crimes such as kidnapping, illegal detention, extortion, and fraud. Several senior members of this group have previously been arrested by the BI.

As a result of his deportation, Yohei has been added to the Philippines’ blacklist, preventing him from re-entering the country.
