MANILA – A senior official from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) announced on Wednesday that courses in tourism, agriculture, and electronics are currently experiencing high demand due to the numerous job opportunities available in these sectors.
TESDA Deputy Director General Nelly Dillera emphasized the importance of tourism, stating, ‘Tourism is at the forefront. It encompasses promotion, accommodation, guiding tours, and the creation of crafts and souvenirs. The sector also includes event management.’ This was shared during her interview on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.
Dillera further explained that tourism education opens doors to careers on cruise ships, ranging from culinary roles to front desk and housekeeping positions.
Agriculture courses rank second in popularity among TESDA enrollees. Dillera pointed out a growing interest in aquaponics and food production, driven by the desire to meet household and possibly commercial needs.
Electronics courses are also trending, with opportunities in mechatronics and advanced manufacturing awaiting graduates.
To support its students, TESDA has established partnerships with various industries. These collaborations allow students to participate in enterprise-based training programs, increasing their chances of employment with these companies.
These partner industries also share crucial data on labor market demands within specific subsectors, enabling TESDA to offer targeted scholarships.
Moreover, Dillera mentioned that the industry keeps TESDA informed about emerging trends, which helps the agency update its competency standards and training modules accordingly.
