MANILA – The Philippine military has expressed its appreciation for the U.S. decision to exempt the country from a global freeze on foreign aid, viewing it as a testament to the enduring strength of the Philippines-U.S. relationship. Colonel Xerxes Trinidad, head of the AFP public affairs office, described the move as a positive step that reaffirms the long-standing ties between the two nations. The aid, amounting to $336 million, is expected to support various programs, including the development of EDCA sites, as decided by the top leadership of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, spokesperson for the Philippine Navy in the West Philippine Sea, also welcomed the decision, noting that it aligns with pre-planned programs for the current and future years. These programs encompass activities across sea, air, and land, as well as support systems in cyber and other areas. The Department of Foreign Affairs had previously confirmed that the U.S. granted a waiver for a portion of its military financing to the Philippines, further solidifying the strategic partnership between the two countries.
