The Innovation Summit 2024 kicked off in Davao City at the SMX Convention Center, drawing a diverse crowd of experts and stakeholders from across Mindanao. The event, which began on Thursday, aims to enhance collaboration and spur technological advancements to boost the region’s economy.
In his opening video message, Leo Tereso Magno, Secretary of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), underscored the summit’s role in showcasing Mindanao’s vast potential and drawing investment into its burgeoning digital sector. ‘Innovation is the key driver of growth across all sectors, offering endless opportunities for development,’ Magno stated, emphasizing the critical role of innovation in propelling leading economies forward.
Magno also highlighted the importance of peace and innovation in driving Mindanao’s progress, noting the region’s transformation from a conflict zone to a peaceful, prosperous area. ‘Mindanao has become a symbol of peace, beauty, and abundance, thanks to the stability fostered by Bagong Pilipinas,’ he remarked.
Jonah Presto, Deputy Chief of Staff from the Davao City mayor’s office, introduced a comprehensive six-year plan to establish Davao as a leading innovation hub in Mindanao. Presto outlined initiatives to support local inventors and startups, cultivate a vibrant creative community, and promote inclusivity. Key actions include setting up an innovation center and organizing future summits.
The three-day summit, hosted by the Davao Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Inc., in collaboration with ICT Davao, Inc., features 33 exhibitors from around the world. These exhibits focus on technologies and solutions that support sustainable development goals for Mindanao.
