Local Farmers’ Groups in Caraga Forge Marketing Pact with School

·

In a significant move to bolster local agriculture, two farmers’ cooperatives and an irrigators’ association in Butuan City have entered into a marketing agreement with a local school. The deal, which was brokered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Caraga’s Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty program, will see the Lower Agusan River Pump Irrigation System, Fisherfolk Initiative for Sustainable Harvest Fishermen Cooperative, and Tabuan Vendors Consumers Cooperative supplying rice, fish, and vegetables to Couples for Christ-School of the Morning Star, Inc. This arrangement not only ensures a steady supply of essential goods for the school’s campus and community programs but also provides a reliable market for the local producers. The Lower Agusan River Pump Irrigation System will deliver rice, the Fisherfolk Initiative for Sustainable Harvest Fishermen Cooperative will provide fresh bangus, and the Tabuan Vendors Consumers Cooperative will supply a variety of vegetables. According to the DSWD-13, this partnership fortifies community ties and supports the local economy by offering a stable market for Butuan City’s agricultural products. Representatives from the Lower Agusan River Pump Irrigation System expressed their appreciation for the guaranteed market for their rice, while members of the Tabuan Vendors Consumers Cooperative are thankful for the opportunities this agreement brings to their vegetable farming efforts across various villages.
