Ako Bicol Partylist Ramps Up Disaster Readiness as Typhoon Pepito Nears

LEGAZPI CITY – As Super Typhoon Pepito, known internationally as Man-yi, edges closer to the Bicol Region, Ako Bicol Partylist, under the leadership of Representative Zaldy Co, has escalated its disaster preparedness efforts to protect local residents. The partylist, backed by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of the community.

In preparation for the typhoon, Ako Bicol has distributed new rubber boats to various municipalities and government agencies across the region, bolstering emergency response capabilities. Additionally, heavy machinery is on standby to tackle potential landslides, floods, and other typhoon-related hazards.

Representative Co emphasized the importance of safety during calamities, stating, “Our top priority in any disaster is the safety of everyone. Ako Bicol is committed to providing assistance, from relief packs to ensuring readiness for any disaster. Now, more than ever, we need to come together as a community.”

Co also highlighted the significance of the new equipment, saying, “These rubber boats and heavy machinery are crucial for our preparedness efforts. They represent an investment in the safety and resilience of our region. We are grateful to Speaker Martin for his support in ensuring that local governments and responders in Bicol have the necessary tools to save lives and protect our communities.”

He urged residents to take proactive measures for their safety, advising, “To our fellow Bicolanos, prioritize safety. If your area is at risk, do not hesitate—evacuate immediately. Life is the most important thing. Let’s collaborate to prepare for this typhoon.”

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with official warnings, cooperate with evacuation efforts, and minimize risks associated with Pepito. For assistance, individuals can reach out to Ako Bicol area coordinators or local government units.

As of 5 p.m., Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 5 was raised in Catanduanes and the northeastern part of Camarines Sur. TCWS No. 4 was hoisted over Camarines Norte, parts of Camarines Sur, and the northeastern part of Albay. TCWS No. 3 was up in Polillo Islands, parts of mainland Quezon, the rest of Camarines Sur and Albay, and the northern part of Sorsogon. In the Visayas, the same warning was issued for parts of Northern Samar and Eastern Samar. TCWS No. 2 was declared over a wide area including southern Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, and several other provinces. TCWS No. 1 covered an extensive region including mainland Cagayan, the rest of Isabela, and numerous other areas across Luzon and the Visayas.
