In a significant law enforcement operation, two individuals believed to be part of the extremist group Dawlah Islamiya were apprehended on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in Lanao del Norte province. The arrests stem from their alleged involvement in an ambush against Army soldiers from the 52nd Infantry Battalion in Munai town last year. The operation, which involved several police units, resulted in the capture of a 21-year-old man known as ‘Ali,’ who was the second most wanted suspect in the region, along with his 17-year-old accomplice, both local residents. Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman, Director of the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao, emphasized the importance of this arrest in maintaining community safety and security. The duo now faces charges of murder and attempted murder related to the January 2023 attack.
