In a significant relief effort, the House of Representatives initiated the ‘Tabang Bicol, Tindog Oragon’ program in Legazpi City, aimed at supporting the Bicol Region’s recovery from the devastating impacts of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine and Super Typhoon Pepito. The program, backed by nearly PHP850 million, was launched by House Speaker Martin Romualdez and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), targeting assistance to approximately 170,000 residents across the region. During the event, Romualdez, alongside House Appropriations Committee chairman and Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, visited several affected areas including Catanduanes, Albay, Naga City, and Pili in Camarines Sur. In Legazpi City, over 6,000 beneficiaries from Albay’s three districts received direct aid. Rep. Co praised Romualdez’s leadership in the relief efforts, expressing gratitude for the hope and tangible support provided to the typhoon-hit communities. Discussions also included long-term solutions like constructing water-impounding facilities to combat recurring floods and support irrigation during droughts. The comprehensive aid package includes food packs, financial assistance through the Integrated Shelter Assistance Program, and the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation, all aimed at addressing immediate needs and fostering recovery in the region.
