Philippine Navy’s Patrolship Delivers Over 5,000 Kilos of Relief to Catanduanes After Super Typhoon Pepito

·

In a significant relief effort, the Philippine Navy’s BRP Apolinario Mabini Patrolship 36, operated by the Naval Forces Southern Luzon (Navforsol), successfully delivered over 5,000 kilos of essential relief supplies to the typhoon-ravaged province of Catanduanes. The mission, which took place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, was the first of its kind for the Navy in the region, following the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Pepito.

The relief goods, which included assorted packs, were transported from Tabaco City port to San Andres port in Catanduanes. Lt. John Emmanuel Sison, acting director of Navforsol’s public affairs office, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the mission. The relief items were sourced from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), along with contributions from the Dios Mabalos Po Foundation and the Alliance of the Philippine Pastors Inc.

Sison detailed the Navy’s comprehensive role in the operation, which encompassed the collection, storage, transportation, security, and distribution of the relief goods. Approximately 40 Navy reservists, officers, and a DSWD representative participated in the mission, demonstrating the Navy’s commitment to supporting local government units in Catanduanes and other affected areas.

Looking ahead, Navforsol is preparing for another relief mission, with the larger cargo vessel LC290 set to arrive in the coming days. Capable of carrying nearly 180,000 kilos, LC290 will significantly enhance the Navy’s capacity to deliver aid to the region, as confirmed by ongoing coordination with Governor Joseph Cua.
