Coast Guard Enhances Surigao City’s Coastline with Over 2,000 Mangrove Plantings

·

In a significant environmental effort, personnel from the Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte (CGS-SDN) have successfully planted over 2,000 mangrove propagules in Barangay Nabago, Surigao City. This initiative, which took place on November 24, 2024, is part of a broader 10-hectare mangrove plantation project supported by the National Greening Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The project underscores the station’s dedication to environmental sustainability and national greening efforts. The planting was a collaborative effort involving staff from various CGS-SDN substations, including those in Surigao City and Lipata. This marks the second environmental activity by CGS-SDN in recent weeks, following a similar planting and coastal clean-up in Barangay Mabua on November 16. The Coast Guard highlighted the importance of mangroves in preventing coastal erosion, boosting biodiversity, and enhancing the well-being of coastal communities in Surigao City.
