In a significant move against drug proliferation, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Davao Region (PDEA-11) obliterated illegal drugs valued at PHP16.1 million on Monday, December 2, 2024. The operation, which took place in Davao City, involved the destruction of 1,661.3 grams of shabu, estimated at PHP11.3 million, and 40 kilograms of marijuana, pegged at PHP4.8 million. Additionally, expired medicines amounting to PHP999,965 were also incinerated.
The destruction was carried out at a thermal facility managed by a local funeral parlor, adhering to the mandates of Republic Act 9165, known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. PDEA-11 Director Edgar Jubay emphasized that thermal treatment renders these substances valueless, a process legally required for the disposal of confiscated drugs.
The event was overseen by Davao City Executive Judge Rowena Apao-Adlawan, along with representatives from the Department of Justice and the Public Attorney’s Office, ensuring the transparency of the procedure. Jubay highlighted that such actions are crucial in dispelling public doubts about the potential reuse of seized drugs by law enforcement, aiming to restore trust and confidence in the system.
